So I recently was involved in a super cool project and I've been so excited to sit down and talk about it! A friend of mine is re-purposing a minibus into a tiny home! Well she was moving and couldn't take it across multiple state lines(due to different laws), so she invited a couple of us over to help her paint it. I have just a few pictures, I didn't get nearly as much done as Rachel and Jessi, so I'm just sharing the parts I worked on! I'll link you guys to the official instagram page so you can see the full results and follow Rachel's progress. This, I think, is the largest scale I've ever worked on. I was actually on a ladder for a short amount of time. I think the hardest part about it was the consistency of the paint. Its industrial strength, oil based paint used for like playground equipment. It was the thickest, gooiest stuff I've ever worked with. But I had a blast and a chill day with some great company. I feel super honored that I was even asked to help out! 10/10 would do again.
This painting honestly turned out so much better than I anticipated. It's weird surprising yourself sometimes. It took me just under 2 hours start to finish. I have some progress photos that I'll post below, I usually take progress pics for all of my paintings. It helps to see the painting through a lens when I'm working on it. In my head I call it Red Riding Hood, but I don't know if I'm going to officially name it that. So this is the step directly after my base layer which was just the purple background and red/orange body. In this photo I had already added the first layer of skin tone as well as the little pops of blue that I love so much. Now between this photo and the last, I moved those boobs like 5 times. And they ended right back where they started. It's just hard to see things for how they really are and not how you think they're supposed to be. I had just started to work on the folds of the fabric too, but it definitely fell by the wayside. In this photo the curves and edges have really formed and her skin has a softened look that wasn't present previously. By this point I was using my spray water bottle to keep my canvas wet so I could easily blend new colors into the skin. And this is the last image before the completed one at the top. The butterflies were a random decision that worked out really well I think. And the little pop of teal on her nails along with the lace on the undies were also last minute additions. It really is all in the details. I've done a similar burst of butterflies, once in my senior project, and I did these exactly the same way. Came together nicely, I think. |
